Aircraft Turbofan Engines: Powering Modern Commercial Aviation
Turbofan engines are the most widely used propulsion systems in modern commercial aircraft. These engines provide the thrust needed to propel large aircraft efficiently over long distances.
A turbofan engine operates by drawing in air through a large front fan. A portion of the incoming air passes through the engine’s core, where it is compressed, mixed with fuel, and ignited to produce high-speed exhaust gases. The remaining air bypasses the core and flows around the engine, producing additional thrust.
