These materials are picked up at and returned to various locations – some are collected from migrants at train stations, while others are collected at safe houses and drop-in centres, also supported by Caritas. These locations provide safe and warm shelters for migrants at a particularly vulnerable stage, allowing them to be part of a community, receive psychosocial assistance and learn languages and other skills. In Lipa camp, an IOM-run facility outside Bihac which can accommodate up to 1500 people, Caritas works to provide shelter for families and unaccompanied minors. I left my home over three years ago and I have been moving since. I have tried several times to cross the border to the EU, walking across roads and mountains for kilometres, but each time I have been pushed back. My phone has been taken from me and I have been again dropped 30 km from the camp, where I return. A Lipa resident, from India Often, the welcome for migrants attempting to enter the EU is not a warm one. They are grateful for the support that is shown to them when they arrive at the camps, but they are concerned about their physical and mental health as they face obstacle after obstacle, in their search for a safer life.

How's life in Bosnia thirty years after the war? - www. caritas. euAs Europe bears witness to a full-scale invasion of one country by another, we are confronted with images that remind us of similar brutal conflicts in the region. Three decades on from 1992, Bosnia Herzegovina is no longer at war and is breathtakingly beautiful. Towns and cities nestled in green valleys give way to rushing rivers cutting through canyons, and snow-capped mountains frame the horizon. Mosques, Eastern Orthodox churches and Catholic spires dominate urban skylines, a reminder of the ethnic and religious diversity which makes up the country.

However, the legacy of the war remains inescapable, and many in Bosnia and Herzegovina speak of how the conflict in Ukraine triggers painful memories and fears of renewed tensions. An EU and NATO-led peacekeeping force remain in the country as a reminder of the tenuous nature of peace, recently doubled considering the current context. Economically, the country still suffers. Human mobility is constant, and while many Bosnians leave their homeland due to economic insecurity, others arrive. Up to 4000 migrants are currently in Bosnia, many in makeshift shelters outside of formal accommodation and reception centres, exposed to freezing temperatures. The number is expected to increase sharply in the summer months. Over the past four years, tens of thousands of migrants have entered the country.
